SKATELAND
Figure Skating ClubSkateland Senior Figure Skating Club members are entitled to participate in all club/classes (Schedule) according to their level of ability and practice on the floor whenever private lessons are being given and take private lessons if they choose to. The charge for these club members is $40 per month for the first family member and 1/2 price for subsequent members and is given to the rink to pay for floor use.
The USA/RS advanced certified coaches are George and Mary Pyche. Private lessons are available. Generally the rate is $20 per half hour. While private lessons enable skaters to realize steady progress they are not mandatory. We have a wonderful group of people in our skating club and hope you will join us and continue with your skating education.
There are many aspects of the sport of roller skating: In the artistic category--there is figure skating, free style skating, and dance skating. In our skating clubs we do all three, concentrating more on the dance as that is the majority’s interest.
The professional association, Roller Skating Association International has achievement tests in the three segments of skating leading to the GOLD MEDAL. We encourage our skaters to mark their progress by taking these tests. The amateur skating association, USA Roller Sports, the national governing body, sanctions meets, contests and championships, big and small, during the year which our skaters may enter. We encourage our skaters to participate if they want to become competitive skaters. Placement in the Northeast Regional Championships is required to enter the U.S. National Roller Skating Championships. Visit our web site under the at www.skateland.com/instruc.html for interesting details about club activities.
Even though artistic roller skating has been trying to be accepted into the Olympics for some time now, it has not happened because of all the other sports vying for acceptance. Artistic roller skating does skate in the World Meet and the PanAmerican Games.
