Skateland skater competes at
Port Richey, Florida in February 2004.

In February 2004, Nancy Gauthier of the Skateland Figure Skating Club in Bradford, Mass. participated in a three-day meet in the nice warm weather of Port Richey, Florida. The rink, Spinnations, is very nice and the meet manager, Angie Serini, ran an excellent meet. Lots of people, formerly from New England have moved to Florida and either skate there or operate and/or coach at rinks in Florida. Nancy skated 6 events and placed in 4. During the pre-meet practice session(on Friday the 13th) she fell doing a cross back and had 6 stitches in her forehead. Nancy's Aunt Terri, who lives in Florida, had a chance to see her skate, and Nancy and her aunt had a nice visit. Skip Eisner and Marion MacDonald, both previously from Massachusetts, came to the meet as well. Two skaters from Good Times and Dorothy DeReamer from Taunton also skated the meet. George and Mary had a nice vacation, went to Bush Gardens with the Bensons, and Mary and Nancy visited Mary's girlfriend, Judy, in Fort Myers. Nancy skated a session in Fort Myers where there were about 75 seniors in attendance. Harold Harriman is the coach there--he and his wife were at our reunion last September.

This meet is skated the weekend before our Massachusetts February school vacation, and we hope more Skateland skaters will be able to make the trip next year and enjoy the warm weather break from our long cold winter. Hotel was $62 a nite, flight about $200.
