US National Championships 2004
Skateland Skating Club Pictures

The Skateland Figure Skating Club was represented at the United States National Championships at the Pershing Auditorium in Lincoln, Nebraska by four entries in eight categories, and they won two placements. Here are some pictures.

Entries and placements are:

• Amanda Bati qualified in four events. She won 2 Silver Medals: 1C Solo Dance and 1B Team Dance.
  Amanda also skated 1C Womens Figures, didn't make finals, and JO Quad Creative Dance, didn't place.
• Michael Adams qualified in two events. He won 1 Silver Medal: 1B Team Dance.
  Michael also skated 1B Mens Figures, didn't make finals.
• Nancy Gauthier qualified in two events, 2D Figures and 2D Solo Dance, didn't make finals.
• Alecia Schneider qualified in 1D Solo Dance, and was a finalist (5th place).

Nancy Gauthier drove her mobile home out to Nebraska, leaving one week early to vacation in Colorado with her husband and several dogs. Alecia, Amanda and Michael were flying for the first time, left on a Wednesday, got marooned in Chicago, the airline put them up overnight, and after a second day of trying to get flights out, met up with Amanda's mother (who flew out Thursday from Boston) and then got a flight to Lincoln. They missed the official practice day, but arrived in time for our private rental at the practice rink. This is the picture of these poor bedraggled travelers when they arrived:

This was the only day I forgot my camera, and I told Alecia, she better make finals or we wouldn't have any pirctures of her. She did make finals with 2 first place ordinals. After getting something in her eye and having the stress of that and not being able to wear her contacts and being in much pain, she was unable to hold onto a placement. She went to the hospital afterwards and had multiple scratches on her cornea.
